FTS Summer Technical Program - Term 4 (2011)

With the FFV Winter club season coming to a close, FTS will be conducting an intensive technical program in Term 4 this year i.e. Oct-Dec 2011.

The Talented Player Program involves TWO or THREE sessions each week, it includes technical sessions, finishing/shooting and modified games – ‘learning to play possession football’.

The training curriculum has a specific focus on the development of individual technique, skill and tactical awareness.

A key focus of the FTS program is to ensure that our young players are composed on the ball in tight areas under pressure.

The program is available for the following players:

U7 Boys - players born in 2004-2005 (Mon/Wed/Sat)
U9 Boys - players born in 2002/2003 (Mon/Wed/Sat)
U11 Boys - players born in 2000/2001 (Mon/Wed/Sat)
U13 Boys - players born in 1998/1999 (Mon/Wed/Sat)
U15 Boys - players born in 1997/1996 (Mon/Wed/Sat)
U19 Boys - players born in 1992-1995 (Tue/Friday only)

The FTS Developmental Philosophy

You often hear stories about certain events or circumstances that change a person's life, well for me it was a visit to Clairefontaine (French National Training Centre) in 2006. As well as personal interviews with Aime Jacquet and other French youth technical coaches, I was guided through the age specific developmental training curriculum. The message was very simple:

"an individual players technique (or technical ability) is the most important developmental element".

Gerard Houllier took it one step further when he suggested that if a player at 16 years of age didn't have a satisfactory technique, there was no way of ever catching up.

In recent years, my research and knowledge of the Dutch and Spanish youth developmental approaches has further helped me to understand the importance of providing a specific environment conducive to advancing a youth footballers technical ability.
